Finding Articles Workshop

The SCC Library offers a self-paced workshop in Canvas called Finding Articles. Some instructors offer extra credit for a certificate of completion. The workshop takes about 45 minutes to complete, and includes video and interactive quizzes. It will teach you how to use SCC OneSearch, search individual databases, filter search results, evaluate search results, understand the difference between scholarly and popular articles, and use NoodleTools. Enroll today!

Information Studies 100: Library Research Fundamentals

This 1-unit course is transferable to CSU/UC, and offered either online or in a face-to-face format. 

This course is an introduction to academic level research skills for effective use of traditional and electronic library resources. Instruction includes print and non-print information sources such as reference books, scholarly material, online subscription databases, and the Internet.

Information Studies 103: Researching In a Digital Age

This 1-unit course is transferable to CSU/UC and is offered either online or in a face-to-face format.

Learn essential library research strategies for effectively locating and evaluating online information on the Internet. Core topics are designing and performing successful search strategies, evaluating online information using critical thinking skills, identifying the ethical and legal aspects of using online sources, and citing web sources using a standard documentation style. ​
